Sensei Chris
Yondan (4th Dan)
Sensei Chris has dedicated over two decades to his martial arts journey. His path began at the age of six when he commenced training at the Trent Road Karate Club under the guidance of Sensei Keith Bishop and Sensei Mick Fitzsimmons.
His karate journey has led him to various locations across the UK, Europe, and South Africa, providing opportunities to learn from esteemed instructors such as Shihan James Rousseau, Sensei Len Sim, and Sensei Arnold De Beer.
In 2007, Sensei Chris achieved his Shodan (1st Dan) and continued to progress, attaining Nidan in 2013. He remained under the mentorship of Keith Bishop for an additional six years. In 2016, he reached Sandan (3rd Dan), and in 2020, he accomplished his 4th Dan.
Following the attainment of my Shodan, under the watchful eye of Sensei Keith, I assumed a teaching role in the class, eventually gaining the ability to independently manage the club. I often filled in for Sensei Keith when he couldn’t attend.
Karate has been an integral part of my life over the years, contributing to my self-confidence, coordination, stability, and balance. More significantly, it has introduced me to a diverse network of individuals, fostering lasting friendships.
In June 2020, we mourned the loss of our dear friend and mentor, Sensei Keith Bishop. Sensei Keith dedicated 22 years of his life to running the Trent Road/North Avenue Karate club before his passing. He was not only a true friend but also a mentor to numerous students, many of whom achieved their Shodan and beyond.
In early 2020, Sensei Chris assumed the responsibility of running Sensei Keith’s club, ensuring that his legacy continued to thrive.
