KARATE

WHAT IS KARATE

Translation of the word KARATE is “empty-handed” or “weapon-less” defence. In Karate the human body is trained to become all the weapons a man or woman may need for self-defence.

GOJU-RYU

WHAT IS GOJU-RYU KARATE

Goju-Ryu Karatedo is a traditional martial art and is an exceptional self defence system. It is one of three styles of karate that originated in Okinawa, the birth place of karate.

GKI

WHO ARE THE GKI?

The GKI is a non-profit making organisation that is dedicated to the promotion and teaching of traditional Goju Ryu Karate Do based on the ideas of Chojun Miyagi. The GKI was formed by Shihan James Rousseau (9th Dan)

WE TEACH ALL ASPECTS

We practise traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu, which focuses on effective close-quarters fighting.

Our instructors include Police Officers who have used their skills on the streets many times.

Karate is for everyone and you are never too old.

We teach students of all ages, disability, male, female, juniors and adults.

Beginners are always welcome, as are students from other associations.

You do not need to have a good level of fitness when you start.

Our training is built around the abilities of the individual.

LEARN TO DEFEND YOURSELF

Throughout our lives, we have all been in a situation which makes us feel vulnerable, or in which we fear for our personal safety or those around us. When you are out and about or in an area that is unfamiliar to you it is important to always be aware of what is happening around you. At Chelmsford Karate, we believe that it is important to learn Self Defence techniques so that you can always be prepared to defend yourself in an unknown situation.
